GTNS DONNA DOUBLE ANALYTICS HERE

Check out RACE EXPLORER, a cool application that visualises run results via virtual race map that plots the finishing positions of all competitors, representing each person with an interactive icon.

Hovering over the icon reveals the competitor’s identity and race statistics, including overall, category and gender positions, as well as their pace. It also ‘maps’ the general spread of over the line results visually.

Very cool.

Tour de Trails is excited to inaugurate the Golden Trail National Series powered by Salomon by welcoming it to the Salomon Warburton Trail Fest fold!

Salomon Team runner, Simone Brick, got her start in trail running at the Salomon Warburton Trail Fest and on the Donna Double course, winning it on her first attempt which a few years later saw her competing in Europe at the Golden Trail World Series!

Yes, the Trail Series that has taken the Northern Hemisphere by storm has launched Down Under and will kick off with Warby Trail Fest’s Donna Double (22km) being the first of four Golden Trail National Series race in Australia!

Golden Trail Series event usually focus on the ‘shorter’ distances of between 20-30km, usually with a decent amount of vert in that of up to 1000m or so. It’s the fast and furious end of trail racing!

Everyone can compete - and it’s still the same Donna Double course - the only difference is that race is now on a national and world stage as M/F winners and U23 M/F winners of the overall series will get a Golden Ticket, all expenses paid*, to race in Europe and the Golden Trail World Series Grand Finale! This is the shot for those wanting to race the world’s best and potentially a pathway to the Salomon Running team!

The Warby Trail Fest GTNS run will be followed by GTNS outings at Kunanyi (Tasmania), Brisbane (Qld) and Newcastle (NSW). Series winners (Open M/F and U23 M/F) will get a trip to Euro-land, land of trail running milk and honey.

sorry, I’ve been out running and missed the news - what is The Golden Trail Series (GTS)?

Salomon Team runner Lucy Bartholomew seen here on the Donna Double / GTNS trails.

GTS is a series of trail running events (that to date have taken place in Europe) that aims to promote professional trail runners as the world-class athletes, to showcase and protect the awe-inspiring natural environments where we play and compete, and to acknowledge the amazing, passionate fans as an essential ingredient in the sport. Each race in the World Series has been specifically selected for the scenery, the challenge, the history and the atmosphere that they offer to both the runners and to the public. These are the races that every runner wants to experience and some of the first written on any runner’s bucket list. Just like Warby Trail Fest!

Each National Series across the globe will highlight that country’s or region’s best races and best athletes with a formula of 2 to 5 races.

2024 will be the first outing of the Golden Trail National Series in AUSTRALIA and we are excited that the Donna Double at the Salomon Warburton Trail Fest will be the first ever GTNS event Down Under.

It will join three other events happening in Queensland, NSW and Tasmania. The GTNS 2024 will encompass:

Salomon Warburton Trail Fest - Donna Double run, Victoria
9-11 March 2024

Kunanyi Mountain Run - Tasmania
22,23,24 March 2024

Brisbane Trail Ultra - Queensland
28,29,30 June 2024

Coastal Ascent - NSW
19 June 2024

THE TOP RANKING FIRST PLACE M/F (OPEN) & FIRST PLACE M/F U/23 ACROSS THE SERIES WILL WIN A GOLDEN TICKET TO EUROPE AND THE GOLDEN TRAIL WORLD SERIES GRAND FINALE!

but I’M A TAD CONFUSED BETWEEN THE ‘golden trail national series (GTNS)’ THE ‘golden trail WORLD series (GTWS)’, and the ‘golden trail championships (GTC)’?

Fair enough, the breakdown looks like this:

Golden Trail National Series = a series of trail run events nominated as GTNC focused on a world region, like Australia, for instance.

There are currently 12 GTNS across the globe, with Australia becoming the 13th GTNS worldwide. Runners get to compete and become a National Champion of the GTNS for their region. In Australia, this then qualifies the overall first place Male and Female AND the Overall first place U23 Male and Female to participate in the GTWS Grand Finale in Europe, all expenses paid.

Golden Trail World Series = is a broader northern hemisphere series (over and above the more localised European GTNS events above) that takes place in Europe (4 races) and the USA (2 races). The GTWS series of races culminates in a 7th race, the Grand Finale, held in Europe. This is the event that the regional winners (open 1st M/F and U23 1st M/F) of each GTNS get an all expenses* Golden Ticket to travel and compete against the world’s best.

Golden Trails World Series Grand Finale = held in Europe this is the event that the regional winners (open 1st M/F and U23 1st M/F) of each GTNS get an all expenses* Golden Ticket to travel to and compete against the world’s best, as do the Top 30 of the Golden Trail World Series. It’s a best of the best scenario! In 2023 it was held in Italy.

Golden Trail Championships = this is essentially a ‘back up’ plan, that was enacted during COVID when all the ‘series’ events were shut down. It acts as a backstop should the same happen again and would replace the GTNS/GTWS ranking events to become, as it says, an all at once ‘Championship’. Essentially, for regular roll out, the GTWS Grand Finale as described above, at which top tier runners from from each GTNS and the GTWS compete, is the Championships in a regular year with no global disruptions.
